I was part of a fabulous event last night…
It was a sultry evening in the desert near Indio, CA…
The temperature at 6:00pm was 105F! Usually this is dry heat, however since the event was held at a polo club and there was a pond and a verdant, watered lawn, things were a little steamy (as well as a wee bit muddy on the walk back to the car!)
As a henna artist, part of my job is to look “exotic” — as exotic as a middle-aged white girl of Irish heritage can look. So I wore my black kurta and I tried tightlining my eyes with tips learned from Karen at Makeup and Beauty Blog. My tools: Urban Decay’s Smoked Palette which includes a 24/7 glide-on eye pencil in Perversion, a very rich black. Throwing caution to the wind, I did a cat line on my upper lashes, then slid the pencil along my waterline. I don’t usually line my waterline because the color wears off in 2 minutes and is never very convincing to begin with. Well, I must have been using the wrong pencils. One swipe of this baby and my eyes were sooty black. I didn’t even bother with the second coat, but went straight for a dab of the black powder shadow to set both upper and water lines.
Once I settled into my booth and the guests arrived, it was 3 hours of non-stop drawing. It was hot. It was humid. The glitter stuck to everyone’s skin and made a sparkly mess. The lighting was less than optimal and I had to squint and twist into awkward postions to not cast shadows in my line of vision… But my eyeliner looked fantastic.
And it still looked fresh after the 2 and a half hour drive home, although by that time, I was so exhausted and hubby was asleep so no-one cared except for Miss Java who approved.
